President Chure-Terai Madhesh Conservation Development Board (PCTMCDB) Khumaltar, Lalitpur, Nepal (PCTMCDB) and Center for Applied Research and Development (CARD), Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University, Pulchock, Lalitpur, Nepal (IOE/TU) have signed an agreement to conduct the research on "Assessment of the current status of wetlands and their effects on water recharge and biodiversity in Chure region" which objectives are assessment of the current status of selected wetlands; and the effects of wetlands on groundwater recharge and/or soil moisture, biodiversity and livelihood.

Member Secretary of PCTMCDB Mr. Ganesh Paudel and IOE/TU Prof. Vishnu Prasad Pandey signed the agreement on Sunday. Baishakh 2082. The research project period is from 2082/01/07 to 2082/03/15 BS.

"A large number people is living with scarcity of water in Chure Terai region of Nepal. Many organization including PCTMCDB are constructed water conservation ponds in this region with the aim of enhancing water recharge and biodiversity conservation. However, actual impacts of those wetlands and/or interventions are not yet adequately documented. So, "PCTMCB" is joining with Institute of Engineering to assess impacts of selected wetlands and/or water bodies on water recharge and biodiversity which research result is fruitful for chure program/policy design/re-design." said Dr. Kiran Paudyal,Chairman, PCTMCDB.
